To combat the “Canadian winter blues”, Dr. Mel Borins, a professor from U of T’s Faculty of Medicine has produced a DVD containing 10 uplifting songs and photographs he has taken around the world. The songs were written by Borins and his son, Dave, a singer-songwriter.

Disability is a social, political and human rights issue, says Tom Shakespeare, a contributor to the first-ever World Report on Disability.

Shakespeare, a technical officer at the World Health Organization,  was at the University of Toronto recently for the Toronto launch of this World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank report. The WHO, the health agency of the United Nations, focuses on health, rehabilitation and data. However, as Shakespeare noted, disability is far more than just a medical issue.

U of T professors perform Ontario's first cardiac stem cell transplant

University of Toronto faculty members performed the first cardiac stem cell transplant in Ontario recently, using stem cells derived from the patient's own bone marrow, isolated completely within the operating room, and implanted into the heart at the time of coronary bypass surgery.
