Dr. Amira Mittermaier, Faculty of Arts & Science, has won second place in the 2011 Victor Turner Prize Competition for ethnographic writing for her book, Dreams that Matter: Egyptian Landscapes of the Imagination (University of California Press).

Professor Cristina Amon, dean of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, has received the 2011 Society of Women Engineers  Achievement Award, the highest award given by the Society, for her outstanding contributions to the field of engineering over more than 20 years.

Dr. Amira Mittermaier, Arts & Science

Dr. Amira Mittermaier has been awarded the Chicago Folklore Prize for 2011.  First awarded in 1928 and given to the author(s) of the best book of folklore scholarship for the year, the Chicago Folklore Prize is the oldest international award recognizing excellence in folklore scholarship.  The prize is offered jointly by the American Folklore Society and the Division of Humanities of the University of Chicago.

Professor Paul Stevens, Department of English

Paul Stevens (Canada Research Chair in English) has been awarded the Montaigne Prize by the Canadian Society for Renaissance Studies (CSRS) for his essay "Literary Studies and the Turn to Religion: Milton reading Badiou".  This essay was presented at the Social Sciences and Humanities Congress in May and is to be published in a special issue of the journal Religion and Literature.

Professor Martin Schreiber, Faculty of Medicine

Professor Martin Schreiber, preclerkship director, Department of Medicine, is the one of the 2010-2011 recipients of the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Teaching and Academic Librarianship Awards. This Award is presented to Professor Schreiber in recognition of his outstanding performance in teaching.

Dr. Daniel Drucker, Faculty of Medicine

Dr. Daniel Drucker, Banting & Best Diabetes Centre, is the recipient of the 2012 Claude Bernard Lecture/Award of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). This acknowledgement is in recognition of Dr. Drucker's leadership and outstanding contributions in the field of diabetes mellitus, and is the highest scientific achievement award of the EASD.

Assistant Professor Dr. Gary Bloch and Assistant Professor Dr. Sandy Buchman  from the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine were awarded a CFPC/ OCFP 2011 Award of Excellence from The College of Family Physicians of Canada.
